The Marigold Mechanic design was born from a collaboration with Citra Studio for the General Maintenance Collection - a limited edition series of throw pillows featuring original artwork by Rebecca Keating.

The General Maintenance Collection was inspired by a curious scene assembled on the designer, Rebecca Keating. On her mother’s kitchen table she found herself placing a torque wrench and a bouquet of flowers. “I was returning the borrowed tool to my mother after completing some general maintenance on my car, and had also brought a bouquet of flowers to surprise her” recalls Keating. “The two objects were such a juxtaposition, yet the pair interestingly captured the unique midwestern femininity my mother embodied.”

Keating calls herself a product of midwestern ‘car culture’ because her parents met and fell in love at an auto parts store. Growing up on a small family farm her love of art and beauty were paralleled with her appreciation for utility and function. This collection explores these traditionally masculine and feminine elements playfully woven together and celebrates their role in the rural Midwest.
